Tucked into the wild beauty of Kyuquot Sound, Sea Otter Lodge isn’t just a place to stay - it’s part of our family legacy.
We’re the Plenskys: fifth-generation Vancouver Island residents with roots that run deep in these forests, waters, and tides. Our ancestors arrived in Canada from Poland over a century ago, working deep in the coal mines of Vancouver Island. Over the decades, we’ve lived off the land and sea as loggers and fishermen, building a life rich in adventure, resilience, and connection to nature.
In 1968, our family found its heart in Kyuquot; a rugged, remote, and breathtaking corner of the West Coast - and we’ve called it home ever since. In 1992, we began building Sea Otter Lodge on our own 7-acre island, using hand-milled lumber from our sawmill. The vision was simple: to share this one-of-a-kind place with fellow explorers who crave something real.
At Sea Otter Lodge, we offer more than a place to rest your head - we offer genuine hospitality, relaxed luxury and world-class wilderness experiences.
Dining at Sea Otter Lodge is a celebration every evening with good company and food that reflects the natural surrounds of Vancouver Island’s wild west coast. We use locally grown and harvested foods to offer the real tastes of coastal cuisine. Guests rave about our cedar-plank salmon, halibut in rosemary red wine sauce, and our famous cod fish & chips. And yes, our chocolate cake is legendary.
